WHAT IS

IYENGAR YOGA?

Iyengar yoga is a style of yoga that emphasizes precision and alignment in the practice of asanas, or yoga postures. It was developed by B.K.S. Iyengar, an Indian yoga teacher who began teaching in the 1930s and continued to practice and teach until his death in 2014.

Iyengar yoga is known for its use of props such as blocks, straps, blankets, and chairs, which can be used to help students achieve proper alignment in their postures and to modify the practice for different bodies and abilities. The use of props also allows students to stay in poses for longer periods of time, which can deepen the practice and improve flexibility and strength.

In addition to asanas, Iyengar yoga also includes pranayama, or breath control, and the study of yoga philosophy. The practice is suitable for students of all levels, and classes are typically structured to accommodate different levels of experience and ability.

Overall, Iyengar yoga emphasizes the precise alignment of the body, the use of props to support the practice, and the integration of breath control and yoga philosophy into the practice. SANTU KARMAKAR

The journey started with his mother in the year 1992, when he was at standard 3. His mother’s dream was that he become healthy boy for that purpose she admits an oldest Sports organization in North Kolkata “Sri Ramakrishna Sab Peyechir Asor” for regular yoga practice.

After completing the academic study, he completed a one-year Yoga Certificate Course from Kolkata’s one of the oldest Yoga Institute “Iron Man Health Home” from Swapan Kumar Das the son of “Ironman” Sri Nilmoni Das in the year 1999. Complete 2yr DPT & BPT Physiotherapy Certificate course in the year 2005.

Practicing with various patients he realizes that people are suffering from many physical challenges by their won inattentive habits. Then in the year 2005, he decided to open “Fitness Healthy Life” Yoga & Physiotherapy Centre to support people to lead a Healthy Life. The Dream come true when his full family help him to achieve this dream his father Sri Santosh Karmakar , mother Smt Renu Karmakar , elder brother Debaprosad Karmakar, sister Jhumpa Karmakar & Tumpa Karmakar all are accordingly help to develop this Yoga Studio. They all followed the traditional Hata Yoga process for daily practice till 2010.

In the year 2010 “LIGHT ON YOGA” by Yogacharya B K S Iyengar, come to his hand. The book is popular internationally as “THE BYBLE OF YOGA”. Then he follows all online Yoga classes by Guruji B K S Iyengar & follow all guidelines by Guruji for his Yoga practice.
In the year 2018 his dream came true when he joins 4-day Iyengar Yoga workshop in Kolkata at Purbanchal Vidyamandir conducted by IYENGAR YOGASHREYA Pune. He got a chance to learn Iyengar Yoga from JAWAHAR SIR, RAJVI MAHETA MAM, AVAY JAVEDKHAR SIR, VADRUBAHU SIR & ASHOK CHAWLA SIR. He attended 4 workshops in Kolkata conducted by IYENGAR YOGASHREYA Pune. In the year 2023 he joins Yogaanusasanam23 for 7days yoga workshop with Abhijata Iyengar, conducted at PUC Gymkhana, Pune.

In the pandemic situation he practices Iyengar Yoga from Rajvi H. Mehta mam after that he continued Iyengar yoga practice with Jawahar Bangera Sir & Bhadrabahu Shah Sir class.

He is a lifetime student of THE IYENGAR YOGA.
